As much as Francis Fukayama has been ridiculed since he put forth his thesis about an “end of history” over three decades ago, liberal leaders are in essence still informed by Fukayama’s ideas.
It’s rather a lot simpler than this. In the 1930s and 1940s, one set of colonial powers fought another set, in a bloody battle in which the winning power used nuclear force and committed crimes against humanity while claiming to be fighting crimes against humanity.
In the process one leading power emerged and carried on its mission of colonialism. It did so through the power of narrative disguising economic and physical violence. But now the cloak is off.
