Since I wrote this reblogged essay two years ago, the U.S. empire appears on the surface to have successfully created a new reality on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Its psyop about Russia being the aggressor is in the process of failing across the peripheral countries, which have refused Washington’s calls for war. But so far the psyop has succeeded in the imperialist countries. The hope for anti-imperialists is that this isn’t the end of the story. The working class majority in the core is being materially harmed by the sanctions blowback, creating an incentive for them to reject the pro-NATO propaganda. What we need to do is bring anti-imperialist ideas to this majority, which we’ll have an opportunity to do with the Rage Against the War Machine rally in DC on the 19th.
An excellent article. I hope you are right about the eventual failure of ruthless capitalism. Precisely due to the rebound of the sanctions on Russia my economic situation has been depleted and I'm not sure whether I can send contributions to the many podcasts who ask for them. I hope I will still receive your newsletters.
"...What will the U.S. proletariat do when these factors take the empire’s internal conditions into an even more dire state? They won’t simply accept the false reality that the imperialists have spun, they’ll act according to Mao’s vision of the future. They’ll move closer towards overthrowing the capitalist state and replacing it with a socialist workers democracy..."
Please allow me to propose a different theory. Namely that the proletariat (who BTW don't see themselves that way, but rather as entrepreneurs and maybe one day millionaires) will simply continue to turn on EACH OTHER, at increasing rates.
