I've read endless commentary on the internet since the reign of Dubya that "the people won't stand for this!" but they do. No one wants to risk what little they have left by holding up a cardboard sign and being handed a criminal record for their troubles. There goes the job, house, car and family. Every day it looks like the neoliberals and glibertarians are putting further and further distance between themselves and the rest of the population in every sense of the word.
It's going have to take Lenin's maxim of "Every society is only three meals away from chaos" to play out before anything happens. The elites know that, of course. Why do you think that every OECD country on the planet massively subsidises its farming industry? Is it because farmers are dumb? Or maybe food isn't popular anymore? Lol. It's because if the neoliberal paradise was truly implemented and these govt subsidies went away, the price of food in the supermarket would double overnight. And then there'd be trouble.
