Great article but I think you should do an analysis on what those “gun control” measures mentioned actually are and what their function to the bourgeoisie actually is. Giving the bourgeoisie state more powers around firearms is short sighted IMO. Mass shootings are a multifaceted issue, we’ve already seen the FBI refuse to take weapons from people who later committed mass shootings. They leave rightists armed, while taking leftists and minorities right to be armed. What this accomplishes is in a potential civil war they would currently leave the right wing forces far better armed than anyone else.
The character of the gun control that currently exists in blue states also gives power to right wingers to deny leftists and minorities from owning formidable arms. For example NY state allows Judges and Sheriffs the right to decide who gets a pistol or a semi auto rifle, they can ask for all your social media at threat of a felony conviction, this includes social media such as reddit. They can deny you for no reason, and are the ultimate arbiters of what “Good moral character” is, we all know right wingers do not see us as people of good moral character.
Giving the bourgeoisie state the right to limit firearm ownership, who can and cannot be armed, and what they can or cannot be armed with only allows arms to flow into right wing hands while the rest of us are left seriously disadvantaged. Even if one was lucky enough to have a clean social media record that a conservative Sherif or Judge would accept, and have the money and time to jump through hoops, they’d still be disadvantaged against right wingers. They’ve already proved through the “Club Q” shooting that they will leave Neo-Nazis their arms, even if under investigation by the FBI and even if they have their family call the police fearing for their lives.
There is a piece on the Intercept that mentions that the FBI has been involved in mass shootings, if thats allowed to be in a spook mag like the Intercept then they want people like me and you to know. We must factor these things in when we talk about gun control. I think it’s a good idea to break down who those “guns control” measures are actually popular with. Because IMO it is mostly those same people who believe in Russia Gate and take the State Department line as fact uncritically. I have seriously reservations about vocally supporting any form of gun control enacted through our bourgeois government. In my anecdotal experience the only people I know who support gun control are people who are susceptible to the new Cold War propaganda and other MSM propaganda.
