It's a tough one, Ritter or Snowden or Perkins or sicarios and mafia who seek redemption (sic) and find that lovely primrose path toward reformation.

Winter Soldier John Kerry, what a great example of an economic hitman.

You know, some of us have fought the law and fought the MIC and have stayed true to our evolutions from socialist and enviornmental activist and social justice warrior and aged into even more militant revolutionaries, with our only crime being an American Citizen.

I taught Scott Ritter types as a composition and writing and literature teacher for colleges. Really, taught civilians and Air Force, Navy, Army, Marines, Coast Guard in mixed classes in Spokane, in El Paso, in Las Cruces, in Tucson, in Seattle, in Portland, in Vancouver, in White Sands. These classes were college level, and I taught them as if my students were smart and open, taught them as if I was at one of those Poison Ivy League schools.

I was called a Pinko, but the reality is I am a journalist who covered cops/pigs, city council, school boards, garden clubs, sports, education, zoning, planning, culture, and more. Real journalist, as in newspaper reporter in small and mid-sized towns. These Perkins characters or Snowdens and even an Ellsberg who was as an analyst for Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara's classified study of the Vietnam War, they may have turned a corner, but the reality is MANY of us have never opted for that bullshit patriotism, and we have been true to our character fighting war, injustice, getting arrested, writing and activating against MIC, capitalism, the crime of governments and inverted totalitarian Corporations.

Journalist and teacher and social worker making $15 to $20 an hour, while the RItters of the world got big bucks as a natural born killer, and now, with VA benefits and the limelight (fractured, sure, and he's off YouTube, sure), he is on a roll.

This is not some purity test, though, so, I'd rather have Ritter where he is in his infancy than the old Ritter, rah rah rah, America the Greatest Country in the World. Yep, I have also worked as a case manager for homeless veterans and their families, and just the plain old homeless coming out of drug rehab programs or prison. I get the deal about humanity and character and redemption.

But Christ, can we have more stories about and more limelight shed on the true warriors, like the Vandana Shiva's or Wangari Maathi's of the world?

There's more reality about Russia and Ukraine and even Gaza coming from ex-Navy guy, The Real Politick's Mark Sleboda, than crocodile tears, football thug, uniform loving, flag-hugging Ritter, ahmen.

I'm not trashing your generalized theses, Rainer. Keep up the good work. I pass your writing along to many people who want both me, a railing polemicist, and a calm comrade like you.

We're pleased to welcome Mark Sleboda (@TheRealPolitickwithMarkSleboda) a geopolitical and military analyst based in Moscow, back to the discussion. He'll be offering his insights on the evolving situation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and Russia's recent announcement regarding the conclusion of the Ukrainian "Summer Counteroffensive." We'll also delve into the prospects of a winter campaign in Ukraine and the larger question of global conflict escalation.
