Capital has created the conditions for a revolutionary class confrontation, of the nature of civil conflict, within the core of imperialism. Such an upheaval is possible in the USA, despite the country being the hub of global capitalism, because this unparalleled strength for capital is only selectively present inside its borders. With America’s deindustrialization and deepening austerity paradigm over the last half-century, the country’s robust facets of capital are concentrated in the centers of its urban areas. Outside of these tiny zones where a labor aristocracy still exists alongside an oligarchic elite, there’s a growing landscape whose people have been relegated to the peripheries of the economy. They’re unable to join the status of the diminishing minority who have a primary material interest in maintaining imperial extraction, the younger people among them being fated for a future with far lower living standards compared to past generations.
Great article once again, Rainer. I always learn so much from you. You have the ability to see the Big Picture in a way that few others can do. As conditions continue to collapse, I agree that the level of fascism will only increase proportionally. The people of the US have had anti-communism so drummed into their heads it will take a large reduction in their lifestyles from shortages and austerity for them to be awakened from their slumber. During this time, it will be the duty of the radical intelligentsia to help educate and guide them toward increased class consciousness, solidarity, and organization. I believe that making greater contact with people at the community level, helping them during their time of need, and being a source of support will help dispel the fear of communism. Times can change quickly--seemingly overnight. You are doing the important work of educating us with your insightful perspective. Thank you.
Most of the working class is so propagandized as to be beyond help. They don’t know their asshole from a hole in the ground. Trying to educate such people in class consciousness is an exercise in futility because ‘merica. Some few may, but false consciousness is deeply ingrained in many swaths of the zeitgeist. Add to this the prolific number of psyops and informants seemingly pervasive among the “proletariat”, and with the alphabet agencies always on the job, you can’t just trust anyone. Still the age of the lone wolf, unless you just have a community like that. But you can’t just bring anyone into the fold, and anyone trying to is immediately suspect of being a fed.
I really like what you're saying, I just think you're making the whole situation sound much less complicated than it actually is. The United states is simply going to be left to rot and decay until the contradictions become inexcusable for 99% of the working
